Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale
September 18, 3:00pm in Johnson Hall
Internationally acclaimed Christian performance artist, theatre director and mask-maker, Doug Berky and his theatre troupe will presentthis Stravinsky's masterpiece, A Soldier's Tale (L'Histoire du Soldat), and the virtuosic score will be performed live by Nashville musicians conducted by Dr. Mark Ring. A Soldier's Tale is one of the musical masterpieces of the early 20th century; it tells the story of one young man's encounters with the devil. Doug with also be performing for and working with our children and youth on September 16th and 17th.
Choral Evensong: Ambient Musical Masterpieces

Join St. George’s Choir and conductor Dr. Mark Ring for this most uniquely Anglican of all services, featuring rarely-heard a cappella settings of the liturgy for evening by the finest Tudor composers.
St. George's Choir & Orchestra present Rheinberger, Finzi & Stanford

St. George’s Choir is will present the sumptuous Cantus Missae for double-choir by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, a contemporary of Brahms, whose harmonies are the essence of serene beauty. St. George’s own Gerry Senechal will be soloist for the lovely Eclogue for piano and string orchestra by Gerald Finzi, whose masterpiece Lo, The Full, Final Sacrifice will also be performed by the Choir and orchestra. The concert closes with Stanford’s triumphant Te Deum.
Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols

Join us for this much-loved traditional service, featuring the choirs of St. George, St. Gregory, St. Cecilia, St. Alban, and St. Dunstan as we recount the history of salvation through scripture and music. The service will be conducted by Dr. Mark Ring, Gerry Senechal and Rachel Hansbury.
Christmas Eve Concert: Laud to the Nativity by Ottorino Respighi
December 24, 10:30pm (preceding the 11:00pm Christmas Eve service)
Celebrate the holy night of Christmas Eve with Respighi’s Laud to the Nativity for choir and winds. Soloists and chorus evoke the mystery and wonder of the Nativity in rustic, carol-like musical settings. Best known for his Pines of Rome and Fountains of Rome, Respighi was enchanted with the style of “ancient” music, imbuing its charm with lovely, modern harmonies.
The Westminster Choir

The Westminster Choir is one of the leading collegiate choirs in the world, often cited as the finest in America. For 90 years, they have set the standard in many genres of music. Conducted by Dr. Joe Miller, they are the Choir in Residence at the Spoleto Festival and, in their larger Symphonic Choir incarnation, have sung over 350 concerts with the New York Philharmonic.
Choral Evensong: The Glory of Venetian Vespers

Our Anglican service of Evensong evolved from the traditional service of Vespers; nowhere was Vespers sung more grandly than at the Basilica of San Marco in Venice. Join St. George’s Choir and Brass as we bring to life the glorious ceremonial of historical Venice, including music by Monteverdi and Gabrieli.
Music City Baroque & St. George’s Choir present Mass in B-Minor by J. S. Bach

One of the most monumental and beloved pieces of music ever written, Bach’s B-Minor Mass will be performed in its entirety with period instruments and a choir of 20 voices, with St. George’s Choir joining for the larger ripieno choruses. Murray Somerville, founder and artistic director of Music City Baroque, will conduct this landmark concert.
Bella Voce: Anglican Masterworks Concert

Bella Voce, founded in Chicagoin 1982 as His Majestie’s Clerkes, is one of America’s foremost professional a cappella vocal ensembles. Led by artistic director, Andrew Lewis, they specialize in Renaissance music, early music from the Americas, and contemporary music from around the world. Their program at St. George’s will highlight treasures of the Anglican choral tradition.
Festal Choral Evensong

Join St George’s Choir for a grand Festal Evensong on the eve of the National Convention of the American Guild of Organists, to be held for the first time ever in Nashville. Music by Bairstow, Finzi, Parry and Stanford evokes the highest traditions of Anglican church music, along with the world premiere of a new piece for Choir and Organ.

The ancient and mystical Office of Compline is a sublime way to end a busy day. The Nave of St. George’s is in darkness, save for the light of dozens of candles in the Apse. The Men of St. George’s Choir chant the prayers, psalms and canticles of this beautiful service a cappella each month (excepting those of Christmas and Easter.) Please join us for the peaceful, movingly spiritual service.
