St. George's Choir
St. George’s Choir for adults is a passionate, insightful collaboration of talented vocal artists who sing superb choral music to a world-class level in both worship and concert settings. We value our rich artistic heritage and its power to still move people deeply, while championing fine music from many places and times, including music of today. We are inspired by the power of music to change lives. We engage our audiences through compelling and evocative musical experiences.
Performing – The Choir sings for the 8:45 and 11:15 services during the academic year (volunteers sing one of two services, staff singers sing both.) We sing Choral Evensong every other month (alternating months with St. Gregory’s Choir); and the Gentlemen of the Choir sing Compline on the third Wednesday night of every month. In addition, we sing for the great liturgical events of the church year, including Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday and Holy Week, and we perform one concert per year on the In Excelsis Concert Series.
Rehearsals – Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 7-9 pm, between Labor Day and Memorial Day, and between services on Sundays. In the summer, St. George’s Choir rehearses for an hour before church on Sundays.
Touring – The Choir has a history of touring. Tours have included serving as “Choir in Residence” at Winchester Cathedral, England, in 2008; singing at the prestigious Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC, in 2006; singing for the National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association; and a European Tour in 1989, which included singing at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris.
Recordings – St. George’s has issued recordings on the Pro Organo label under former director Dr. Wilma Jensen. New digital recordings are planned beginning in 2011 under current director Dr. Mark Ring. Read more here.
We Welcome Volunteers!
