St. George's Choir

St. George’s Choir for adults sings to God the praises and prayers of the church during Sunday morning services, special concerts and musical services, and tours. A large number of volunteer parishioners are joined by 17 staff singers to provide music of a professional caliber for worship.

Performing The Choir sings for the 8:45 and 11:15 services during the academic year (volunteers sing one of two services, staff singers sing both.) We sing Choral Evensong every other month (alternating months with St. Gregory’s Choir); and the Gentlemen of the Choir sing Compline on the third Wednesday night of every month. In addition, we sing for the great liturgical events of the church year, including Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday and Holy Week, and we perform one concert per year on the In Excelsis Concert Series

Rehearsals – Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 7-9 pm, between Labor Day and Memorial Day, and between services on Sundays. In the summer, St. George’s Choir rehearses for an hour before church on Sundays.

Touring – The Choir has a history of touring, including an upcoming pilgrimage to northern Italy in 2011. We will visit the relics of St. George in Portofino, and will sing and tour in Milan, Genoa, Lucca, Florence, and Venice. Other tours have included serving as “Choir in Residence” at Winchester Cathedral, England, in 2008; singing at the prestigious Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC, in 2006; singing for the National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association; and a European Tour in 1989, which included singing at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris.

Recordings – St. George’s has issued recordings on the Pro Organo label under former director Dr. Wilma Jensen. New digital recordings are planned beginning in 2011 under current director Dr. Mark Ring.

We Welcome Volunteers!

Love to sing but not sure about joining the Choir? St. George’s Choir is a warm and welcoming group, dedicated to supporting each other and to singing excellent choral music to God. For volunteers, a simple audition (pitch, range and balance) is all that is required for placement in the choir. Please just call or email Mark Ring with any questions or to set up an audition.
