The Rev. R. Leigh Spruill, Rector

The Rev. R. Leigh Spruill has served as Rector of St. George’s since early 2005. Prior to his call to our church, Leigh served as Rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida, as Associate Rector at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Birmingham, Alabama and as Assistant Rector at St. James’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, Virginia.

A native of Tappahannock, Virginia, Leigh received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After college and following several years in the commercial real estate industry in Richmond, he attended the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. He was ordained in the Diocese of Virginia in 1996.

Leigh is married to Susalee, and the Spruills have three children, Eleanor, Peter and William.

 

The Rev. Timothy Jones, Senior Associate Rector

The Rev. Timothy Jones is Senior Associate Rector of St. George’s. He is the author of several acclaimed books on the spiritual life, including The Art of Prayer: A Simple Guide to Conversation with God; Awake My Soul, Practical Spirituality for Busy People; Workday Prayers; and Nurturing a Child’s Soul. He served as general editor of the Spiritual Formation Bible and compiled and edited a book of unpublished writings of the late Henri Nouwen, entitled Turn My Mourning into Dancing. Timothy is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary and the School of Theology. He also recently served as a leader of a campus ministry through St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He and his wife, the Rev. Canon Jill Zook-Jones, are the parents of three children.

 

The Rev. Marcia King, Associate Rector & Director of Ministry

The Reverend Marcia C. King serves as Associate Rector and Director of Ministry. Prior to her call to St. George’s, Marcia was Assistant Rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs, MS where she was a major leader in coordinating relief efforts for that community following the ravages of Hurricane Katrina.

Born in Knoxville, TN, Marcia lived in Jacksonville FL for over 35 years. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Florida and received her Masters of Divinity from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry. Marcia is currently pursuing her Doctor of Ministry degree. Prior to entering seminary, Marcia was Director of Sales and Marketing for Prudential Insurance Company. She has served on the Executive Council of the American Cancer Society as well as numerous other philanthropic organizations. Marcia is married to John King; they have three adult children living in North Florida.

 

 The Rev. Sarah Kerr, Associate Rector

 The Rev. Sarah Kerr serves as Associate Rector with a focus on youth and young adults.  Originally from the great state of Maine, Sarah attended Wheaton College, where she  studied English, Ancient Languages, and Theology. She received her Master of Divinity  from Duke Divinity School in 2008 and then served at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in St.  Petersburg, Florida. She was ordained by Bishop Dabney Smith in the Diocese of  Southwest Florida. Her interest in mission work has led her on trips to Nepal, the  Philippines, Mozambique and China. She had the honor of serving as a steward at the  Lambeth Conference gathering of bishops in 2008. She enjoys traveling, music, and reading.

 

The Rev. Timus Taylor, Priest Associate

Father Taylor joined St. George's clergy staff in 1993. Originally from western Kentucky, he attended Vanderbilt University, was a member of the US Air Force, and attended Yale Divinity School and Virginia Seminary. He was ordained in 1964 at Washington National Cathedral.

Father Taylor has served churches in Maryland, California, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, and Tennessee. He was the first director of Paducah Cooperative Ministry, an organization of 40 local churches serving the needy.

Tim married Mary Ready Weaver Parrent of Belle Meade in 1957. His family at St. George's includes son, Stephen, daughter-in-law, Carolyn, and grandchildren Avery and Eleanor Taylor.

 

The Rev. Roger Senechal, Priest Associate

Now semi-retired, Roger served as Rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Auburn, Massachusetts (about an hour from Boston) for 19 years. While in the Diocese of Western Massachusetts, Roger served on its Standing Committee, Evangelism Commission, the Bishop’s Advisory Group, New Church Development Task Force, Bishop’s Task Force on Diocesan Re-Visioning and as Dean of his Deanery. Roger is a Member of the Fellowship of the Way of the Cross and has convened a Spiritual Direction of Congregations Group. He also served his community as President and Board Member of Auburn Youth and Family Services, and was several times elected as President of the Auburn Clergy Association.

Roger graduated from Weston Jesuit School of Theology (M.Div.) and Harvard Divinity School (Th.M.). A lifelong resident of the Northeast, Roger served as Area Executive with the New Hampshire Division of the American Cancer Society prior to serving as Associate Rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Exeter, N.H.

Fr. Senechal enjoys bicycling, beekeeping, astronomy, birding, camping, and music. He is married to Diana and is the father of our very own organist, Gerry Senechal.
