Search for New St. George's Director of Music Ministries is Underway

Despite our sadness over the announced retirement of Dr. Murray Somerville as Director of Music Ministries effective September 1st, I am pleased to announce the formation of a Search Committee that will make a recommendation of a new Director in the coming months. This committee has already begun its work under the terrific leadership of Butch Baxter who graciously agreed to chair the committee. Other members are Carol Armes, Jeff Bailey, John Fitzgerald, Karlen Garrard, Cathy Jackson, David Puryear, Frank Puryear, Martha Rodes, Carolyn Sorenson, Steve Taylor, and Ann Wells. I am grateful to each one of these individuals for their service to the church in this vital way and invite your prayers for the committee’s work. Please be on the lookout for periodic updates as the search continues. RLS+

Music Search Committee Seeks Your Input

We’re beginning the difficult task of trying to find someone to follow in the big footsteps of our Director of Music, Dr. Murray Somerville. Often the right person is best found through word of mouth, so we’re asking for your input. The job description and qualifications for the person we seek to continue this vital ministry at St. George’s are posted here. If you’d like to recommend someone who might meet the qualifications we seek to continue in this vital ministry at St. George’s, referral forms can be found in the church office or you may contact search committee chair Butch Baxter.

Thank You Parishioners!

The choirs of St. George’s are immensely grateful for the support of the parish as we undertake this pilgrimage; all those who attended the fall and spring fund-raisers, the Vestry for its generosity, several parishioners for their outstanding individual generosity, and all those who bought Christmas cards and ornaments. Many choir members worked long hours at the Sommet Centre earning funds to offset their expenses; choir member Jennifer Orth arranged a well-paid recording session with her media company. In so many ways, so many members of the parish have shown their support of this pilgrimage; we know we go with your prayers and very best wishes, and we are most grateful.

Elizabeth Smith Leads the Choir

During the choir’s English pilgrimage, our beloved former organist Elizabeth Smith will be at the console. She would like to invite any and all parishioners to join a “family choir” for those two Sundays (July 27th and August 3rd), to sing some nice simple anthems and to help lead the congregational singing. Just come to the choir room at 9:15am and sing along – don’t worry, you won’t have to robe or process!
