The Healing Ministry

The Healing Ministry

Jesus said to his disciples, “heal the sick” (Matthew 10:8), in describing to them what he expected them to do, and his words are still true for us today. At St. George’s, healing ministers and clergy follow his words by offering prayers and blessings for those who are ill, troubled, or seeking healing for another. At the 8:45am and 11:15am services, after receiving communion, individuals may proceed to the chapel to receive special prayers from an appointed minister and priest. An usher will assist each one to a place. At the altar the minister asks for the name of the person being prayed for and, if possible, a brief description of the need. The individual kneels and receives the prayers and laying-on of hands. The same opportunity for healing prayer is also available at the Wednesday 10:00am service.

God’s gift of healing comes, by the power of the Trinity, to those who seek Him, that they may become more perfect in His sight. God’s mercy and goodness is at work in this parish through those who love and serve Him as ministers of health and healing. It is available to all His children.

    CD from Siloam

    “Hymns of Comfort”
    CD from Siloam

If you are looking for a special gift for someone who may need a little encouragement, this is a CD set that you may want to consider. When Sam Brooks, a special Siloam friend and supporter, developed lung cancer his friend, John Coates, recorded a CD with some of Sam’s favorite hymns for Sam’s listening pleasure and comfort. After Sam’s death his wife Linda worked with John to develop an expanded two-disc CD called “Hymns of Comfort.” It is Linda’s hope that the proceeds from the distribution of the CDs support the work of Siloam. Linda has made these CDs available to Siloam’s volunteers and supporters.

Hymns included on the CD are Near to the Heart of God, Come Ye Disconsolate, God Will Take Care of You, Be Still My Soul, It is Well, Jesus, Lover of My Soul, Children of the Heavenly Father, The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want, His Eye Is On the Sparrow, and Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.

The CD set is now available at the church office.

    St. George's Prayer Lists

There are two different prayer lists at St. George’s: the Sunday Prayer List and the Weekday Chapel Prayer List. You may add names to one or both lists at any time. It’s easy!

    Here’s how:

Submit a prayer request on the information form (located in the pews) and put it in the collection plate on Sunday. Or contact Lynn Ragland at 385-2150 x 247 or lynn.ragland@stgeorgesnashville.org. Indicate the list (or both) on which you would like the person’s name to appear. That’s all you need to do!

Those on the Sunday Prayer List are prayed for during the Prayers of the People and the names are printed in the Sunday bulletin so that the congregation may pray for them as well. Individuals on the Weekday Prayer List are prayed for at the 7:00am weekday Chapel services. Please be sure the person we are praying for knows that their name is included, especially for the Sunday list

Unless otherwise indicated, we will pray for each person four consecutive weeks. The person placing the name on the list is then contacted by the Church office to determine if the name should remain on the list another four weeks. Of course, a name may be removed at any time. Please let us know how the person is doing. We care and God is healing people in our midst.

One final note: letting the church office know about a hospitalization or illness does not mean automatic inclusion on either prayer list as often this information is confidential. Individuals are not placed on the public prayer lists without their permission.

    Ministry of Greeting

An Invitation to the Ministry of Greeting

Interested in greeting people as they enter and leave the church on Sunday mornings? This simple yet profoundly important ministry may be just for you. If you are interested in exploring it, we invite you to a Greeter Orientation and Training.

The first will be held Sunday, July 13th, at 9:00am. The second will be held Sunday, August 3rd, at 11:30am (immediately following the 10:00am service).

These informal and informative sessions will help attendees become more effective and intentional in welcoming visitors. We have some simple, practical coaching tips that can make your greeting even more meaningful, and your experience more satisfying. It is necessary to attend only one of the two.

For more information, contact Brad Thomason at 604-3109 or The Rev. Tim Jones at 385-2150 x 217.
