St. George's Choir

St. George’s Choir for adults sings for the Sunday morning services, special concerts and musical services, and tours. Staff singers are joined by a large number of volunteer parishioners to provide music of a professional calibre for worship. The choir has performed for the American Choral Directors Association, and performed as Ambassadors for the State of Tennessee across Europe.
Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, 7 – 9 pm, between Labor Day and Memorial Day, and between services on Sundays. In the summer, St. George’s Choir rehearses for an hour before church on Sundays.
We Need Volunteers!
For volunteers, a simple audition is all that is required for entry, just to ensure that you have a voice that will blend (no fog-horns or big wobbles!), that you can sing on pitch, and know enough about reading music to be able to keep up.*
In 2005 the choir gave the US premiere of CPE Bach’s 1769 St. Matthew Passion, with viol consort and baroque instruments. In 2006, they were guests in the prestigious Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. And adults and youth have been invited to be “choir in residence” at Winchester Cathedral, England which will anchor their brief summer tour of England, including singing at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London in 2008.
(*Don’t be scared by this – if you can tell the difference between down and up, the difference between black and white, and can count to four, chances are you’ll manage all right!)
