Hit the Ground Running
Every so often, typically at the tail end of a seemingly chaotic and sometimes difficult stretch of time, people can look back over the course of their days and see the undeniable influence of God’s working in their life. One influential philosopher referred to this dynamic as having “a hole torn in one’s life.” Once a hole is torn, a whole new world of reality tends to emerge. Recently, a beloved couple at St. George’s felt compelled to share their story with us as they transitioned out of St. George’s through a job transfer to southern Louisiana. As you’ll read in the following testimony, Kelsey and Gray Mitchell “hit the ground running” just over one year ago when God began stirring their lives in a dramatic fashion. Gray and Kelsey were gracious in granting us permission to pass this story along to you all.My name is Kelsey Mitchell and my husband (Gray) and I have always considered ourselves Christians. That was until we attended “A Weekend To Remember” last year in Franklin, TN. It was at that very moment that we realized that we had not been living our lives according to God’s plan and our marriage certainly wasn’t thriving like we thought it was. It wasn’t until after attending “A Weekend To Remember” and having God personally speak to us, that we would REALLY know what it means to be a Christian and that we needed to focus on “oneness” in our relationship. It all started out about a year and a half ago when a priest at our church was promoting “A Weekend To Remember”. My husband and I looked into it and thought to ourselves, “Well, we have a good marriage and we are church going Christians. We can’t really afford this weekend right now, so we’ll have to pass.” My husband and I were hit with some major setbacks and our monthly income was cut in half overnight. We were stressed out about our finances, but we felt like we were dealing with it the best we could. However, something kept tugging at my heart and we felt like we really needed to go to this conference. We signed up and I have to say that decision is probably the best decision we have made in our lives. After the weekend, we were forever changed and we have only God, our Church, and the Family Life organization to thank for it!!! This conference spoke to us…it helped us to bond in a way we had never done, or even knew existed. We were rethinking our life, our goals, and our friendships and realized how we wanted to be closer to other couples that had their marriages centered in Christ. After praying for God to bring us closer to Him personally, he blessed us beyond our belief. All the couples from our Church that attended the “Weekend To Remember” in Franklin decided to start a “Homebuilders” group. We were asked to join and shortly thereafter, every aspect of our lives began to thrive. The Homebuilders group brought us closer together with other couples in our Church, my husband was invited to join a Christian Leadership Concepts men’s group, I started leading a group at church called Companions in Christ, and our Marriage and Family are skyrocketing. It is hard to write this confession and adequately express the immense joy and peace that have come from putting God first in our marriage and family life. We are not in a good marriage…we are in a GREAT marriage! One for the ages. We are thriving and it feels so good to be on the same team with my husband and see things like his career taking off. “A Weekend To Remember” and “Homebuilders” gave us the tools and mindset to support each other and provided a pathway for God to come into our marriage, as well as others’, and make it stronger. I now see that if we didn’t go through having our financial lives turned upside down, much of this would not have happened. We went back to “Weekend To Remember” this year at Opryland as alumni, and learned even more. We experienced the conference in a different way this time. We were able to build on what God had shown us and those two weekends will definitely be “Weekends to Remember!”
Thanks Be To God,
Kelsey and Gray Mitchell
