The Rev. J. Malone Gilliam
Rector
Born and raised in Fort Davis, a rural cattle ranching community in Southwest Texas, Malone’s heritage is steeped in the independent, frontier spirit of cowboy country. Desiring to experience other parts of the United States, Malone attended undergraduate school at The University of the South in Sewanee, TN, and later earned his Master of Divinity from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA. Influential mentors from “near and afar” in his life include: The Torrence brothers, Thomas and James; Paul Zahl, Malcolm Smith; and Brennan Manning.
Prior to accepting the call to St. George's, Malone served as Rector at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Edenton, NC; Senior Associate Rector at St. George’s; and as Associate Rector at Church of the Holy Cross on Sullivan’s Island, SC. Malone is married to Mary Gilliam and they have four daughters: Grace, Anne, Elizabeth, and June. He enjoys southwestern cooking (and eating!), classic rock and roll, and conversation with friends.
