75th Anniversary: Marcia King
The Rev. Dr. Marcia King served as a guest preacher for our 75th Anniversary Preaching Series at 10:00am in the Nave.
The Rev. Dr. Marcia King was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, but lived in Jacksonville, Florida, most of her life. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Florida and was employed by Prudential Insurance Company for 27 years, retiring in 2001 as the Director of Sales and Marketing.
While senior warden at Resurrection Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Marcia felt a call from God to ordained ministry. She attended Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, graduating with honors in 2004. Marcia was ordained in June 2004 and called to St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs, MS, as assistant rector. In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, Marcia served the people of that area in leadership activities to support the parish Diocese and community. In 2007, she was called to St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville as associate rector and director of ministry, working on the parish Strategic Plan, liturgy, Alpha, and women’s ministries.
Upon the birth of her grandson in 2012, Marcia and her husband, John, retired to Fernandina Beach to be close to family in Jacksonville. In 2014, she was called to part-time ministry at St Peter’s, primarily coordinating Adult Christian Education and teaching classes. Marcia received her Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity School for Ministry in 2019.
Marcia served as Interim Rector at St. Peter’s in Fernandina Beach, FL, from November 2020 through August 2021. After traveling the world with her beloved husband, John, she is currently resting on her laurels and loving life with John, her grandkids, and two bad cats. She preaches, celebrates, and teaches as the spirit moves her.
