How does this call to follow Jesus speak to us today? I can’t help but think about the new definition of what it means to “follow” someone via social media. Whether it’s someone we are following on social media or someone we know in real life, we might ask ourselves, Is their influence bringing me more hope, better perspective, greater challenge, deeper wisdom? Or is their influence making me more competitive, more jealous and envious and insecure and unsatisfied with my life? … Following someone will change us; so we have to be discerning about whom we follow. Jesus is always inviting us to follow him first and foremost, and while he doesn’t promise us an easy road, being influenced by him will change us for the best.
